Raw chocolate and many late-night, drug-infused, vinyl-listening sessions brought them together.

They were good listeners.
They told good stories.
They told good jokes.
They always had time for a snack and a smoke.

From the living room floor, each tune began without a plan.

Maybe someone would have some chords in mind.

The tempo and the feel developed as they traveled together.

It was a conversational approach.

Greg laying down voice and guitar.

Derek adding bass, loops, rhodes and casio echoings.

Bryan bringing sax, flute and piano radiance to the flow.

Justin recording everything direct to cassette, making it eternal.

Over the course of several sessions spanning from 2017 to 2019, a deep collection of jams were etched. The selections on Vol 1 reveal the improvisatory journey from Anandamide, Justin’s now evolved chocolate shop on Long Beach’s Retro-Row, to Glitter Island, Derek’s living room studio on Florida Street, just a few blocks down. It's a journey without a destination, only to be felt and realized in each moment.

Every time I listen to it, it brings me so many memories and lots of joy. A really well crafted album where you can feel the effort put into every song. Had the chance to attend one of the gigs at the Church of Sound in London which for me, was one of the most memorable shows I've been so far. Not only because of the engagement of the audience but also the level of intimacy reached by these two. virgimarine

Just discovered Sam Wilkes and some of his work and bass playing, and arrived to this record. It reminds me a lot to John Hassell/Eno era a bit more jazzy, and all the ambient music from the 80’s. I love it! Santi Umbert
